As a part of the City’s ongoing traffic improvement initiatives, we will be gradually installing new left-turn signals at some intersections across the city. The f
irst one will soon go up on Main Street at Indian Lake Rd.
These new signal heads help make intersections:
Safer: Studies show drivers interpret flashing yellow arrows more accurately than a green ball light.
More Efficient: Left-turn opportunities increase, reducing wait time at intersections.
Flexible: Signal timing can adapt to rush hour vs off-peak traffic.
Not sure how these work? Here is what each colored arrow means:
Steady Red Arrow – Do not turn.
Steady Green Arrow – Protected turn: oncoming traffic is stopped.
Steady Yellow Arrow – Turn ending soon; prepare to stop or finish turning.
Flashing Yellow Arrow – Permissive turn: You may turn left, But first yield to oncoming vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. Proceed only when it's safe.

video explanation for more details on how these new turn signals work and will improve traffic in the city.
