Public Works

Public Works is one of the largest and most diverse departments with six major areas of responsibility: Engineering, Road Maintenance, Traffic Operations, Quality/Stormwater Division, Property Maintenance, and Waste Collection. We provide essential services to the citizens of Hendersonville and strive to maintain public infrastructure in a professional and economic manner, preserving these assets for generations to come.

Maintenance duties include:

  • Pavement Management and Pavement Markings
  • Roadway Marking and Sign Repairs
  • Traffic Signal Maintenance
  • Street Lighting Maintenance
  • Right-of-Way Maintenance
  • Public Stormwater System Maintenance
  • City Property Maintenance
  • Seasonal Snow and Leaf Removal
  • Street Sweeping and Storm Drain Cleaning
  • Main Street Seasonal and Event Decoration

The Engineering Division manages both public and private infrastructure projects. The Engineering Division works with other City departments, TDOT, various utility providers, elected officials, and the public to ensure that our infrastructure is designed and installed properly, meeting all local, state, and federal standards and guidelines.

The Stormwater Division helps the City maintain compliance with mandates set by the federal (EPA) and state (TDEC) governments to minimize stormwater runoff pollution. Under the Clean Water Act of 1972, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires municipalities like Hendersonville to manage stormwater. The City has received a Phase II Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) to allow Hendersonville to discharge stormwater into nearby rivers and streams.

The focus for each Public Works team member is community service, safety, efficiency, and accountability.  We are pleased to serve the residents of Hendersonville and welcome you to contact us with your feedback.
